Swaziland’s king Mswati III went to visit Zambia with his third wife, and his daughter. The reason why this king paid a visit to Mswati was in search of his 14th wife. This king felt like 13 was not enough for him that he decided to go for a 19 year old. This young girl is named Simphele Mashwama, and she is from Zambia. In Africa there is a tradition that whenever a king gets a new wife, there are around 40,000 dancers who perform for the king and his wife. This to me is ridiculous, I feel like men are the only ones who benefit from this open marriage because they are allowed to leave one of their wives for another one. As for the women they are stuck with their husband and only him. Women can not have multiple husbands, like men. I also feel like 14 is a very large number. I really do not see why a person needs to have 14 wives? I feel like one should be enough, because if you have 14 wives, I feel like you do not really know what falling in love really is. Plaque in Madagascar

For todays blog post I will be speaking about the Plague in Madagascar. Several years back in Europe there was a disease called the ‘Bubonic Plague’, where many people were killed. This plague comes from animals like rats, and fleas, which means it is easy to catch. Although we have found a cure for this infection, this disease is still found in the streets of Africa. Africa is the most common country that still has a plaque. About 10% of the people catch this disease which means that not a lot of people in get it, but there is still the risk of catching it. This plague is also found contaminated water, which is good sanitation is necessary. Also, because their is still the risk of catching it, it is best to get the shot and prevent it. Tribes video 1

Today’s post I am doing it something that really struck out to me. My blog post will be on the Amazon Prime series, ‘Tribes’. Today in class we watched the first episode of the documentary, and I can honestly say that I was so shocked, about the circumcision of the young boys. I can not even imagine their pain, and how much it hurts to get circumcised, live without medication. Circumcision is a big event in the live of the people who live in the Nile tribe. Once you are ready to get married, you must got through the process of a circumcision ceremony, where you are surrounded by your friends who will be your support group throughout your recovery. Then you are seated outside, and a men continues the process. When this is happening you are not allowed to complain, or make a sound at all. If you do you are seen as a disappointment to your family, and will not be able to marry. National Teacher Day in Ghana

For my blog post today, I am going to be speaking about teachers in Ghana. Madam Faustina Cobson was declared to be the number one teacher for this year, 2017. This teacher, teaches in Richard Acquaye Memorial School, which is located in a ‘suburbs of the capital, Acca. For all the hard work, time, and dedication into her students, she is rewarded with 50,000 cedis, which is approximately 11,000 dollars. This teacher is also guaranteed a life insurance package, and a three bedroom house. Madam and many other teacher, have been asking their government to have a day to celebrate the effort of teachers. But after some time, this dream was accomplished to Madam, because now we celebrate the 23rd National teachers day. Teachers are recognized for their hard work, that they are receiving, life changing gifts. Equality in Liberia

In the capital of Liberia, as little as that country is Library spreads a big message to all of Africa. In Monrovia, young girls wear hats on their heads that say ‘ Equality ’, right on the center. The reason for the hat’s was to pass around the message of gender equality. The hats were worn on ‘day of the girl’, by most young girls in elementary school. In the image of that article you can see four young girls wearing tall white hats. Every hat says a different message, but all have the same context. If I was in school and I knew that girls were wearing those hats to get the message of equality passed down, I would too wear a hat. I feel like I would wear the hat with pride, because we do need more inequality in the US, and special Africa. Unlike the US, some parts of Africa are developing countries, or least developed; which means that they have old fashion ways of thinking. Fashion Week in Ivory Coast

For today’s blog I will speak about Afr ica’s fashion week. Many “stylist and fashion seekers met in Cote d’Ivoire in capital Abidjan, for the 12th edition fashion show”. After looking at some of the pieces that were modeled that night were a representation of Africa, itself. The colors that the designers used in there pieces are bright rich color, a lot of orange was used. These colors are known to be primary colors, which are colors in the color wheel that can not be created, because they are single toned colors. These colors are red, yellow, and blue; they are bright tones that are mostly used in Africa, because of their warmth. Today's the Ivory coast supplies 300,000 jobs of industry work, to people. The event was meant to represent modern Africa. I find it very special that African, runs fashion shows, to represent the pride they have. National Library of Uganda

In the month of September, many Ugandans ran a 5km in color run for a good cause. By running this race, you are supporting literature, toward children. This run helped donate millions of books that went to the cities library's. In the run you would get splattered in colored dye, while you were running. These runs, do not ave long that they have been presented. In the year of 2015, the cause of the run was to help cancer awareness. These runs are for fun, and not actual races. There is not winner or loser; all you do is pay to run, and that money will be donated to the cause, or awareness you are promoting. I enjoy reading, about the good that is being done in Africa. And it is very heart warming to know that people are coming together for a good cause. For instance, the library in Uganda is nothing like out modern version of a library.
